In “compliance” with our” democratic principles” of “rugged individualism”, we insist that everyone “pick themselves up by their bootstraps” – because it beats actually having to DO something and thereby admit the flaw in the concept.
Or perhaps, in the best traditions of capitalism, the poor are meant to die off quicker (ya snooze ya lose), in the end leaving only the rich to inhabit the realm…….
